Dr. Lara Barazzuol is an Associate Professor at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), the Netherlands, where she leads the Molecular Radiation Biology laboratory. Her research focuses on understanding and reducing cancer treatment-related toxicities, particularly in the brain and head and neck region, and on developing novel therapeutic strategies that combine radiotherapy, including proton therapy, with immunotherapy to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Barazzuol obtained her PhD from the University of Surrey in 2012 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in Prof. Penny Jeggo's laboratory at the University of Sussex (UK), where she investigated DNA damage responses in the developing and adult brain. She established her independent research group at the UMCG in 2017, and has since secured multiple national and international research grants and received several prestigious awards for her contributions to radiobiology.
