Bo Lu, MD, PhD, is the NextGen Professor in Cancer Research at the University of Missouri and an accomplished physician-scientist specializing in radiation oncology and lung cancer research. Prior to his current role, he served as Professor and Chair at the University of Missouri and held faculty positions at Thomas Jefferson University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Lu’s research has focused on advancing the understanding of lung cancer biology, radiation response, and the complex interactions between radiotherapy and the immune system. His laboratory has investigated mechanisms of radiation-induced cell death, treatment resistance, and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of radiotherapy and immunotherapy. More recently, his work has focused on immune-mediated cardiotoxicity associated with thoracic radiation and immune checkpoint inhibitors, including the role of B-cell-mediated autoimmunity. His group is also exploring molecular PET imaging for the early detection of cardiac inflammation and novel therapeutic approaches to address immune-related cardiac adverse events.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lu has combined laboratory, translational, and clinical research with the goal of improving outcomes for patients with lung cancer.
